One of the most complex defence contracts of our time, Barbour Structures are pleased to be have been a major labour contractor on the project to build the floating dock, currently being completed within the Inchgreen Drydock in Greenock.
Formerly the principal drydock of the world-famous Scott Lithgow Shipbuilding Company, the dock was famously lengthened to accommodate the outfitting of the QEII, after its launch on the Upper Clyde.
The project currently nearing completion, will allow several submarines to tie up alongside whilst riding the tide, negating the necessity for submarines to be continuously tying and loosening stays as the tide ebbs and falls.
A highly complex procedure for construction was employed in this contract, utilising a great number of cells within the structure, to ensure the massive structure would float. Once again Barbour Structures completed on time and on budget.
