Portable Appliance Testing is a vital part of standard Risk Assessment for Hotels and Public Buildings and forms part of the legislation for compliance to safety rules. MES and UK Radio Fire Alarms engineers are fully accredited to the carry out PAT Testing.
The testing is carried out routinely to ensure that all electrical equipment and appliances within hotel rooms, meet the exacting standards required. MES testers are competent in the safe use of the test equipment and in the dismantling and rebuilding of electrical appliances and know how to interpret the test results, rectify any problems and issue the certificate. It is essential that records are kept of appliances tested and close monitoring of the appliances is essential to highlight potential faults.
There are four main areas where testing in deemed as necessary. These are:
1. Testing to a standard appropriate to the type of appliance.
2. In-service testing i.e. earth continuity, insulation testing or earth
leakage measurement and checks on the functionality of the appliance.
3. Testing after repair to ensure the appliance is compliant and safe.
